Coronado Islands Charter San Diego

One short run south puts you in one of the West Coast’s most reliable fisheries.

The Coronados: where consistent action meets world-class island structure.

Fifteen miles south of San Diego, across the U.S.-Mexico border, sit four rocky islands that produce some of the most consistent sportfishing on the entire West Coast. The Coronados are a different world from San Diego’s coastline – kelp forests, deep rocky structure, strong currents, and significantly less pressure from the north. Brothers Sport Fishing runs a dedicated Coronado Islands Charter in both 3/4 Day and Full Day formats, giving San Diego anglers proper access to one of the region’s premier fishing destinations.

Two formats are available:

This trip is one of the most requested runs. The fish are the reason.

This is a Private Charter

Your group, your boat, your experience. No strangers, no party boat crowds, no waiting around. Just you and your crew on a fully equipped vessel working San Diego’s shoreline.

What Lives at the Coronados

Yellowtail are the flagship species – they stack around the kelp and rocky structure throughout the season and will absolutely punish tackle that isn’t up to the task.

Yellowtail

Calico Bass

Sand Bass

White Sea Bass

Bonito

Lingcod

Calico bass and sand bass are abundant and provide consistent action when the yellowtail bite is off. During warmer water years, bluefin and yellowfin tuna push in close to the islands and create some of the most exciting fishing in the area. Pacific bonito, white seabass, and lingcod round out the species mix.

Year round fishing destination.

The Coronados hold fish year-round. The mix of species shifts with season and water temperature, but there’s always something biting at the islands.

Two Ways to Fish the Coronado Islands

3/4 Day Trip

9 hours, 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

The most efficient version of the trip – you run down, work multiple spots around the islands, and get back before dinner. Nine hours gives your captain enough time to find where the fish are holding and adjust as conditions change throughout the day.

Full Day

12 hours, 6:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Extended time at the islands to work them properly. If the yellowtail are stacked on a particular piece of structure, 12 hours means you can grind it out without the pressure of needing to leave early. This is also the format for days when the fish are spread out and require more movement to find.

International destination – bring valid identification and be aware of any documentation requirements for Mexican waters.

Boats and Equipment

Our vessels run Yamaha outboards at 18-27 knots – the Coronados are a fast run from San Diego, and you’ll be there with time to spare. Seeker Rods, Shimano Reels, Simrad GPS/Sonar/Radar, and oversized bait tanks with 3-5 scoop live bait capacity. Fresh bait is critical at the Coronados, and we keep it in prime condition.

Oversized Bait Tanks

Extra Cooler Space

Oversized bait tanks keep your live bait in prime condition. Three to five scoop bait capacity means you’re not running thin on ammunition when the fish show up. Your catch gets iced immediately – extra cooler space is standard on every boat.

Safety standards above the USCG minimum

Safety above USCG minimums: commercial life jackets, radar, three VHF radios, including an emergency handheld, and an EPIRB on every trip.
